Printing Copper Parts Using Laser Metal Fusion
At Photonics West, TRUMPF showcased a green laser to demonstrate how to print pure copper using Laser Metal Fusion. To achieve this, developers connected the new TruDisk 1020 disk laser with the TruPrint 1000 system. The green wavelength allows for printing highly reflective metals while reducing waste of expensive materials.




Xerox Enters Metal AM With Acquisition of Vader Systems
Xerox, Norwalk, CT, has acquired Buffalo, NY-based metal additive manufacturing (AM) company Vader Systems. Vader offerings include the Vader Polaris liquid-metal AM system, the Magnet-o-Jet Subsystem for hybrid manufacturing equipment integration and the Ares Microsphere Production System for the production of spherical metal powders.

World’s Largest 3D Printed Single-Piece Rocket Engine
Orbex, a U.K.-based spaceflight company, has introduced Prime, reportedly the world’s largest 3D printed single-piece rocket engine. Printing the engine, without seams, was a LLM800 large-format metal AM printer from SLM Solutions.
