Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC), Jonhstown, PA, has earned a patent for its additive manufacturing process, which uses metals in a gaseous state to produce complex and thin-walled 3D parts. The CTC technique use carbon monoxide gas with up to 18 metal types. When the gas and metal react under high temperatures, a complex gas forms. The metal, when deposited on a high temperature substrate, creates the thin shell of the printed part. The company says the process is ideal for producing complex and seamless metal parts with thin-walls.
