AM Cuts Injection Molding Cycle Times at Action Mold & Machining

Tuesday, December 17, 2019

…thanks to a Renishaw, Inc. AM400 metal additive manufacturing (AM) system supplied to the Grand Rapids, MI, provider of plastic injection and die cast die tooling and molding.

Having built a reputation on delivering quick change and turnaround for plastic injection and die cast molds, the company decided on the AM400 due to its build envelope and the ability to change materials quickly.

“AM will allow us to design conformal cooling in areas of tooling where it’s just impossible to do right now,” says Michael Fassbender, Action Mold managing director. “There is big demand for conformal cooling to enhance cycle time for customers, for their parts and product. And that, in turn, will create more demand as the technology is proven out, and the area should have phenomenal growth in the next five to 10 years.”
