Thursday, January 19, 2017

The SLM Solutions Group AG, a provider of industrial metal 3D-printing systems, has broken ground on a new facility in Lübeck, Germany, which will feature more than 750,000 sq. ft. of production, research and development, logistics, and office space. In addition, SLM Solutions’ North American headquarters also has expanded to a new facility, in Wixom, MI. The new location offers more than 13,000 sq. ft. of office, warehouse, lab and post-processing space.

“It is our dedicated aim to make our production and logistics fit for the future, to optimize existing processes, and to increase the delivery performance considerably", says chief financial director Uwe Bögershausen.

The new building in Germany will house a workforce that is expected to double in the coming years, with the first customer delivery from that facility scheduled for March 2018.

Commenting on the new North American headquarters, “With our growing customer base in North America it was necessary for us to follow suit to meet the increasing demand for feasibility builds, process development and customer service,” says Mark Hoefing, president of SLM Solutions NA, Inc.

“With three times more lab space, we have capacity to operate eight SLM systems to better support future and existing customers,” adds Richard Grylls, technical director for SLM Solutions N.A. “Our new workshop is being outfitted with all-new auxiliary equipment, including a mill to finish plates, band saw, heattreat furnace and downdraft table. A state-of-the-art modular chiller, air and argon system also is installed, including full argon exhaust and oxygen alarms. The new facility also offers a dedicated training room, where full training classes soon will be offered.”
