The path that a laser or electron beam traces over the build plate during the build process.
Selective laser melting (SLM)
A 3D printing process that employs a laser to selectively and completely melt metal powder.
Fusion and solidification of powder or granular material from the application of heat (without melting to liquefaction) and/or pressure.
Any manufacturing process that removes material from a solid block to develop the final 3D shape, such as milling and turning.
Support structures or material
During 3D printing, support material is deposited to brace and reinforce overhangs and in some cases to inhibit thermal distortion. Supports are constructed either from the build material itself, or from a different soluble or breakaway material.
