Global standards organi- zation ASTM International and three U.K.-based entities are partnering to fast-track the creation of technical standards needed by the AM industry. ASTM Internation- al’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence, for which the U.K.-based Manu- facturing Technology Centre is a founding partner, identi- fied three areas for standardi- zation. The effort will be sup- ported through a $383,000 investment from Innovate UK, a U.K. government agency to British Standards Institution in partnership with ASTM International.

Prototolabs Joins MIT’s
AM Consortium
Protolabs, Inc., a Maple Plain, MN-based provider of 3D printing services, announced that it has become a founding member of MIT’s newly formed Center for Additive and Digital Advanced Production Tech- nologies (ADAPT). ADAPT is a consortium focused on scal- ing new manufacturing tech- nology through research, education, actionable insights, and an MIT-based ecosystem that pairs industry and academia.
Other founding members: Autodesk, General Motors, and Volkswagen, to name a few. Initial efforts of ADAPT include exploratory research projects with faculty and graduate students, and accel- erating the establishment of a new, advanced AM labora- tory at MIT. ADAPT activities also complement MIT’s AM education programs.
