May 10, 2018Coherent, Inc., the Santa Clara, CA-based provider of fiber-laser solutions, has made its first investment in the metal additive-manufacturing market with the acquisition of OR Laser, the Germany-based maker or Orlas Creator 3D metal printers for small and medium enterprises.
John Ambroseo, Coherent’s president and chief executive officer, describes the printer as “a compact tool to enable process development across multiple markets, as well as production capability for the dental, medical and jewelry markets. OR also developed proprietary, intuitive software that doesn’t require third-party add-ons to go from CAD modeling to printed parts. Future projects will be directed towards the automotive and aerospace markets.”
