Norsk Titanium Launching “Aerospace Factory of the Future”

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Slated to house an initial group of 20 Merke IV Rapid Plasma Deposition machines from Norsk Titanium, a new industrial-scale metal-additive manufacturing plant is scheduled to open by the end of 2017 in Plattsburgh, NY. The plant, being developed through a partnership between the State of New York and Suny Polytechnic Institute, expects to establish a baseline production level of 400 metric tons per year of aerospace-grade structural-titanium components. The Norsk Titanium machines feed titanium wire into a set of plasma torches, which melt the wire in a cloud of argon gas in order to rapidly build up layers of metal to a near-net shape; www.norsktitanium.com/.
